Hi, I’m Lisa!

I like beer. I Like it a lot. I also like cider. I also like it a lot. I write about both. Oh, and I like wine and spirits. And yeah, I also write about them too.

German Export – Certified Brit – Born Bohemian

When you’re born in Germany with a set of Bohemian grandparents and end up living in England for half your life, you’re set up for a love of good beer and appreciation of brewing traditions and drinking cultures.

I am an Alcohol Education Alliance qualified Sommelier of Ales and a Cicerone Certified Beer Server and I received my WSET Level 1 Award in Beer in 2021 after being part of the pilot course. Now, that was a tough secret to keep until they were officially launched in 2024!

Growing up in Germany’s main cider region means cider is in your veins and you preach the fermented apple juice gospel whenever you can! So I became an ACA Certified Cider Guide, a qualified BACA Pommelier and decided to learn the theory behind making the tasty stuff through a General Certificate in Cider Making from the IBD.

My blog #DrinkiesWithTheChimp is an online publication which focuses on my passion for beer, cider, wine and spirits, often exploring craft beverages and their cultural significance. I write from a consumer point of view and am inspired by drinking cultures, a thirst for knowledge and a curiosity of why we drink, what we drink.

I run beer and cider food pairing workshops, host drinks tastings and love to talk spirits and wine during fun and educational meet ups! I’m a drinks judge, and would love to help you with commercial and consumer competitions, as well as panel discussions.

As a Society of Wine Educators Hospitality Beverage Specialist my background is in evaluating a wide variety of drinks, from craft beers to non-alcoholic wines. I enjoy judging beverages to emphasise balance, creativity, and the quality of ingredients, ensuring that each drink is assessed with precision, but also paying attention to the craftmanship behind the drinks.

I was lucky enough to try Siren Craft Brew’s annual Caribbean Chocolate Cake before the general release to the public and subsequently invited to join the panel discussion and YouTube live tasting.

Some of my recent judging included the SIBA International Beer Awards, the People’s Choice Wine Awards and the People’s Choice Spirits Awards.
